The Sisters of Mercy

The Sisters of Mercy formed in Leeds in 1980 around Andrew Eldritch's baritone and a drum machine called Doktor Avalanche. First and Last and Always and Floodland defined gothic rock, though Eldritch hates the label. They stopped releasing records in the early 1990s in protest against their label, but still tour.
